Blizzard Edge New Ulm on Wednesday

The Blizzard welcomed New Ulm to the RCC on Wednesday night for the second to last time this season and pulled out a 5-4 victory. Wesley Johnson got the Blizzard off to a fast start with his 2nd of the season a minute and a half into the game. Nikolai Rajala set him up and Sean Kenny picked up the second assist. Kenny then scored midway through the first to give the Blizzard a 2-0 lead after one. Johnson and Rajala assisted on Kenny’s 10th of the season. New Ulm came back with two in the second knotting the game at 2-2 heading into the 3rd period. Alexandria jumped back in front five minutes in when Dallas Duckson scored on the power play. Andrew Revering and Colin Tushie assisted on Duckson’s 13th of the year. Seconds later, Cole Klingbeil gave the Blizzard a 4-2 lead with his 4th of the season off assists from Alex Heidenreich and Ben Tschida. New Ulm kept fighting pulling to within one, but Cole Klingbeil scored his second of the game and 5th of the season to put the Blizzard back up by two at 5-3. Tschida, and Heidenreich picked up the assists. New Ulm scored a late one but it wasn’t enough as the Blizzard extended their win streak to 3 games. Joey Greilich made 32 saves for his 7th victory of the season.

The Blizzard (17-18-1-1 – 36pts) close out the regular season this weekend with 3 games and an outside chance to catch Willmar for 3rd place in the West. They host New Ulm on Friday night at 7:10 pm then host Willmar on Saturday at 8:10 pm, before their last road game on Sunday against Granite City at 5 pm.
