BLIZZARD EARN WEEKEND SWEEP

BLIZZARD PAY TRIBUTE TO THOSE WHO SERVED WITH MILITARY APPRECIATION NIGHT

The Alexandria Blizzard made a quick trip up north to take on the MN Loons in what was a closely contested battle battle midway through the 3rd period. Eli Fletcher opened the scoring for the Blizzard at the 9:30 mark of the 1st period on a pass from Justin Wasvick but the Loons netted a quick goal to open the 2nd period to tie the game. At the 9:54 mark of the 2nd, Chris Fotopoulos found the back of the net to regain the lead with Aiden Prohaska and Eli Paloranta getting the helpers. Once again, the Loons came out of the locker room to a quick start and tied the game with a goal coming 44 seconds after the faceoff. Reece Hubmer was able to beat Kelley at the 12:03 mark on a play from Eli Fletcher and Justin Wasvick to regain the lead once again. In the final minutes of play, the Blizzard added a few empty net goals to earn the first victory of the weekend, winning 5-2 over the Loons. Shots on goal were a blistering 68 to 18 with Jayden Serene stopping 16 of 18.  

Saturdays matchup was with the Willmar WarHawks in what was a packed RCC for Military Appreciation Night. Once the special pregame ceremony was over, the Blizzard were able to net 2 goals to open the 1st period with a 2-0 lead. Eli Fletcher got the opening goal from Justin Wasvick and Parker Anthony with Justin Wasvick netting his own goal late in the period on a play from Tyler Kludt and Joe Gronholz. The middle period failed to produce any offense until the final 2 minutes with the WarHawks getting one past LaCrosse but the Blizzard had a quick response with Ashton Collings scoring shortly after with Markus Olson and Chris Fotopoulos getting the assists. Willmar had a quick response to the Blizzards 3rd goal to make it a one goal game heading into the 3rd period. In the 3rd, Markus Olson was able to double the Blizzard lead on a play from Aiden Prohaska and Ashton Collings but the WarHawks weren’t done as they cut the lead to one with 5 minutes to play. The Blizzard held of the final push from the WarHawks for the 4-3 victory and will face Willmar again this Wednesday. Shots on goal were 39 to 22 in favor of the Blizzard with LaCrosse stopping 19 of 22 WarHawk shots.
