BLIZZARD EARN WEEKEND SPLIT

BLIZZARD FACED MN LOONS & ROCHESTER GRIZZLIES OVER THE WEEKEND

On Friday the Blizzard made a quick trip up north to Breezy Point to take on the MN Loons. Justin Wazvick started the scoring early with a goal 1:38 into the first period with Fletcher and Senden picking up the assist. He added his second tally of the night at the 9:09 mark with assist going to Scribner and Senden. The Loons got on the board shortly after on a Serino goal at the 10:51 mark with the Blizzard responding with their third goal of the period, this one coming from  Markus Olson from Kludt and Olson. Chris Fotopoulos scored just over halfway through the 2nd with Nygaard and Collings getting the assist. The Loons managed to hang around with late 2nd period goal by Serino to cut the lead to two. The Loons carried that momentum into the 3rd with a opening minute goal by Biermaier to make it a one goal game. Matt Scribner was able to beat Mazurek to regain the 2 goal lead with Collings and Senden getting the assist. The Blizzard defeated the Loons 5-3 with the Blizzard having a huge shots on goal advantage of 53 to 13.

Saturdays game had the Blizzard traveling south to Rochester to take on the first place Grizzlies. Both teams failed to find the back of the net in the 1st period but the Grizzlies got a quick goal in the second from Klotz and followed up with a Bastian goal at the 14:15 mark of the 2nd. The Grizzlies added their third goal at the 8:24 mark of the 3rd on a Haun goal with the Blizzard finally having an answer at the 10:05 mark on a Fotopoulos goal with Wasvick and McIntyre getting the helpers. While the Grizzlies went 2 for 4 on the PP, the Blizzard failed to connect on the power play with 7 opportunities. Shots on goal advantage went to the Blizzard outshooting the Grizzlies 35 to 30.

Next game for the Blizzard is against Granite City November 11th at Sports Arena East at 7:30. Granite City currently sits 3 points ahead of the Blizzard.
