Blizzard Earn 1 Point on the Road

Jan 9, 2023

Alexandria hit the road this past weekend and suffered two tough losses but salvaged one point by reaching overtime on Saturday in Willmar.

Friday night started uncharacteristically for the Blizzard in New Ulm, as they fell behind 3-0 eight minutes into the game. Alexandria fought their way back and took a 4-3 lead heading into the 3rd but couldn’t hold on. Despite outshooting the Steel 54-24 the Blizzard lost 5-4. Alexandria got goals from Gavin Carlson, Jayden Luck, Matt McIntyre, and Sean Kenny who led all scorers with 3 points.

Saturday night was even tighter against the Willmar Warhawks. Matt McIntyre continued his hot return to the ice with his 7th of the season midway through the 2nd period tipping in a shot from Logan Luckasezck to give the Blizzard a 1-0 lead. Ashton Collings also picked up an assist. Bazl Cook gave the Blizzard a 2-0 lead six minutes into the 3rd on a shorthanded goal, but the Blizzard couldn’t hold the lead and eventually lost 3-2 in a shootout.

Alexandria (19-6-0-2 – 40 pts) will host Mason City Friday and Saturday night at the RCC. Puck drop is 7:10 both nights. Get your tickets at alexandriablizzard.com or stream the action on hockeytv.com
