Blizzard Drop One to Willmar

Jan 23, 2023

Alexandria hosted Willmar on Saturday in front of a packed house for Cub Foods Night, but came up on the wrong end of a 4-1 loss. Willmar came out aggressive scoring three minutes into the game, but although the Blizzard were outshot 16-13 in first period, Charlie Larsen fired home a wrist shot from the high slot to tie the game 1-1 after 20 minutes. Sean Kenny and Joe Gronholz assisted on Larsen’s 6th of the season. Willmar scored the lone 2nd period goal and added two late goals in the 3rd to cap off the win. Alex Lamont played great in net and made 36 saves in defeat.

The Blizzard (21-8-0-2 – 44pts) have a busy week with games at the Loons on Thursday, at New Ulm on Friday and then back home to host Granite City on Saturday. Catch the action on hockeytv.com and click tickets for Saturday night’s game at 7:10 pm at the RCC.
