The Alexandria Blizzard\’s penalty kill was superb, as Alexandria survived multiple penalties to beat the Minnesota Flying Aces, 3-0.
The Blizzard were led by Ian Ecklund, who tallied one goal and one assist. Ecklund scored short handed 5:21 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Alexandria. Alexandria was on a disadvantage when Joe Anderson went off the ice for elbowing.
The Blizzard excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. Alexandria forced Minnesota goalie Patrick Anderson to work between the pipes, taking 47 shots.
Others who scored for Alexandria included Bo Gronseth and Aaron Ryback, who scored one goal each. More assists for Alexandria came via Trent Olson, Danny Pelzer, and Mitch Krafcheck, who contributed one a piece.
The Flying Aces stifled the Blizzard\’s power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Minnesota\’s offense operated below it season average. The Flying Aces put an average of 2.3 pucks into the net per game.
Evan Bisek made 21 saves for Alexandria on 21 shots. The Blizzard incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Anderson rejected 44 shots on goal for Minnesota. The Flying Aces incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
