The Alexandria Blizzard climbed out of a three-goal hole to beat the Granite City Lumberjacks, 4-3.
Alexandria never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Blizzard was down 3-0 after a power play goal by Granite City\’s Corey Taylor at 4:59 in the second period. Alexandria tied things up at 3-3 on a goal by Jody Randall at 6:25 in the third period. The Blizzard netted the game winner at 8:05 in the third period on a goal by Randall.
Alexandria\’s penalty kill excelled, as the Blizzard gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.
Alexandria was helped by Luke Pavelich, who grabbed one goal. Alexandria additionally got points from Logan Norman, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Alexandria also got a goal from Bo Gronseth as well. Other players who recorded assists for Alexandria were Tom Monteiro, Tyler Berginski, and Aaron Randall, who each chipped in one and Tyler Sworsky and Gavin Mindt, who contributed two each.
The Lumberjacks forced the Blizzard\’s goalies to work all game long, taking 38 shots and forcing 35 saves. Evan Bisek made 22 stops and Tanner Elmore made 13. The defensemen of Granite City were also effective in Alexandria\’s zone, and came away with two goals.
The Lumberjacks were led by Brycon Johnson, who racked up one goal and one assist. Johnson scored 17:08 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Granite City. Brady Bernhardson picked up the assist. Travis Kothenbeutel also scored for Granite City. More assists for Granite City came via Tanner Skaja, Adam Marty, and Sam Zweiner, who each chipped in one.
The Blizzard incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Sam Goetsch took the loss and made 22 saves before being replaced by Jesse Garcia who made four saves. Granite City incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
