The Alexandria Blizzard had a three-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-1 win over the Twin City Steel.
Alexandria was sparked by Nate Mettenburg, who registered one goal. Mettenburg scored 3:33 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Alexandria. Tom Monteiro provided the assist.
The Blizzard\’s penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Twin City power plays. The defensemen of Alexandria were also effective in Twin City\’s zone, and came away with two goals.
Alexandria additionally got points from Logan Norman, who also had one goal and one assist and Tony Arias, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Gavin Mindt also scored for Alexandria. In addition, Alexandria received assists from Tom Schmidt and Nathan Scofield, who each chipped in one.
The Steel were held below their usual level of production. Twin City averages 3.9 goals per game. The Steel were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 26 penalty minutes.
Twin City was led by Jordan Pitlick, who scored the team\’s only goal. Pitlick scored 16:17 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Alexandria. Jon Plaszcz picked up the assist.
Evan Bisek rejected 19 shots on goal for the Blizzard. Alexandria incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Darien Jones recorded 19 saves for the Steel.
