ALEXANDRIA — Js Hockey, LLC is a new group operating the Alexandria Blizzard junior hockey team for the 2026-2027 season.

It has obtained funding commitments that would allow for the installation of a 16-by-9 foot video board and static panel on the north wall of the Old National Arena.

The current video screen is a projector-style drop-down screen in the southwest corner of the arena.

“The screen and projector are past their useful life,” said City Administrator Marty Schultz in a memo to the council. He added that staff determined that the old screen was 15 years old.

“All user groups of the PrimeWest Runestone Community Center will have the ability to use this video board free of charge,” Js Hockey noted in a memo to the council. The representatives listed in the application are Jeff James and Jeff Crouse.

A recent comparable donation happened when the Alexandria Youth Baseball Association donated the scoreboard at Knute Nelson Memorial Park to the city in 2023, according to Schultz.

The total estimate cost of the project is $64,935. Js Hockey will provide an in-kind donation that covers the cost. The city’s share of the cost is up to $1,000.

The donation includes the purchase of an additional four-year warranty for parts and labor beyond the five year warranty that comes with the purchase.

City staff has reviewed the available electric on the north wall and press box and believe that it is adequate, Schultz said.

The staff would like to allocate some funds from the RCC operating budget if needed for electrical upgrades, Schultz added.

The city will have responsibility for ongoing maintenance of the board.
