Blizzard Earn 3 out of 4 Points in Milwaukee

Feb 14, 2022

Alexandria traveled to Milwaukee over the weekend and took 3 out of 4 points from the Power after a 3-2 shootout loss on Saturday and a 6-3 victory on Sunday.

Saturday

The Blizzard got off to a fast start on the power play with Justin Wasvick’s 15th of the season just three and a half minutes into the game. Wyatt Johnson and Alex Heidenreich picked up the assists. Milwaukee scored the lone goal in the 2nd period, then took a 2-1 lead late in the 3rd period, before Matt McIntyre forced overtime with the equalizer in the final minute. Kaden Peterson, and Charlie Larsen assisted on McIntyre’s 18th of the year. The game went to a shootout with Milwaukee denying the Blizzard on their first two chances and scoring on both of their chances for the extra point.

Sunday

The Blizzard bounced back with a 6-3 victory. After falling behind early, the Blizzard capitalized on a power play with Charlie Larsen’s end to end rush finishing with his 2nd goal in his first 3 games with the Blizzard. Goaltender Andrew Tuttle picked up the assist. Ethan Moerke scored a couple minutes later off an assist from Erick Sanborn to give the Blizzard a 2-1 lead. Milwaukee then scored a minute after Moerke’s goal for a 2-2 score after one. The Blizzard came through in the 2nd period building a 4-2 lead off goals from Justin Wasvick and Cole Klingbeil. Wasvick’s 16th of the season was another power play goal with assists from Klingbeil and Wyatt Johnson. Gavin Carlson and Alex Heidenreich assisted on Klingbeil’s 22nd of the year. Carlson extended the Blizzard lead to 5-2 early in the 3rd with his second in three games. Johnson and Brady Goff picked up the assists. Milwaukee scored with about four minutes remaining to pull within two, but a minute later Heidenreich pulled the plug on the Power comeback with his 14th of the year off assists from Matt McIntyre and Wyatt Johnson. Andrew Tuttle made 45 saves to even his record at 6-6. Wyatt Johnson led all scorers with 3 points. Carlson, Heidenreich, and Klingbeil each had multi point games.

Alexandria (21-17-1-1 – 44 pts) remain in 4th place and will play 3 games this weekend. They travel to Willmar on Friday and then host Mason City Saturday night at 7:10 pm and Sunday at 5 pm. Click the Tickets tab above for tickets or watch the games on hockeytv.com
