The Alexandria Blizzard avenged Friday night’s home loss to the Willmar Warhawks with a 10-0 blowout on Saturday night on the road in Willmar.

Carter Rieland and Brandon Connett each found the back of the net twice as the Blizzard was on its way to one of its biggest wins of the season so far. Val Popowski, Caleb Strong and Connett each had three points on Saturday.

Ville Hyttinen continued to have a strong start to the season with a 37-save shutout. He is currently 2-3 with a 2.82 goals-against average and a 91.7 save percentage.

The Blizzard lost to the Warhawks at the Runestone Community Center on Friday night after Willmar scored three unanswered goals.

With less than two minutes to play in the second period, the Warhawks tied the game 3-3 with goals from Ben Tarlton and Elbridge DeKraai. Blake Hansen scored the game-winning goal for Willmar with just over 14 minutes left in the third.

Nathan Hadley got the start on Friday night. He made 27 saves in his first loss of the season. Shane Birkeland, Derek Dropik and Cole Jacobs were the Alexandria goal-scorers.

Alexandria is 5-5-0-0 (10 points) on the season and is currently fifth in the West Division. Willmar is one spot above them with a 6-4-0-1 (13 points) record. North Iowa, who the Blizzard play on Saturday night, leads the division with 23 points.
